The Lab: Imagining an Alternate Caribbean Future in Mahaut, Dominica
Create Caribbean continues its quest for an ecosystem of environmental sustainability, community accountability and planetary responsibility with this critical component of the Carisealand project. The Lab is an experiment in Caribbean survival in the age of climate change. Focusing on the community of Mahaut, Dominica in the aftermath of Category 5 Hurricane Maria in September 2017, The Lab combines narrative and storytelling, historical analysis, mapping and 3-D modelling, and crowdsourcing.
The students, scholars and citizens participating in this experiment work to consider what a world would look like in which sustainability, accountability and responsibility for the natural environment, sociopolitical conditions and the humanity of each member of community is acknowledged and included to survive and thrive, and to resist and respond to the unavoidable causes and effects of climate change.
